Going to a concert at Orchestra Place, we booked the Hyatt Regency for its close proximity to the venue. On a very wintry February weekend, the massive fireplace in the lobby area was a cheery welcome, complete with cozy spots to repose while waiting on friends, a town car, or with a drink from the nearby restaurant/bar. The staff was equally welcoming, making check-in a breeze and even presenting guests with roses (it was Valentine's weekend). Though they were quite busy with people coming and going to dinner and shows, the valet staff was prompt and efficient. We elected to dine on site at the Prairie Kitchen & Bar, having checked it out online ahead of time. The restaurant was making some menu changes and operating on a more limited menu than featured online, but they went to the trouble of preparing an appetizer we wanted to order, even though it was now off menu. And while other menu items we anticipated ordering were also absent, the dishes we experienced were wonderful, and our server Jessica was a delight as well. We would dine there again even if we weren't guests. Our room was well-appointed with fridge, coffee maker, etc. We especially liked that the bath had a separate vanity area next to the sink for applying makeup. We opted for the city view, which gave us some distance from the elevators, and we slept uninterrupted from 1:00am to 9:00am. Thank you very much! The front of the property is a little tricky to get to, but that's not uncommon in downtown Minneapolis with the buses, commuter trains, one-ways, etc. All-in-all, we felt the entire staff at the Hyatt Regency went the extra mile to make certain we had a great stay. We will definitely return and highly recommend this hotel to others. More

This intimate neighbor restaurant delivers a superior dining experience: ambiance, tasting menu selection, highly trained wait staff - and, of course, outstanding food. Our reservation was for 7:30 but the party before us did not leave in a timely basis. We were offered a glass of prosecco for our wait. Everyone in our party chose a difference selection for each course so that we could taste virtually everything on the menu. Each selection was better than the next, including specific physical dishes that best displayed the beautifully plated food. The waiter had explained to us that since it was designed as a tasting menu, the portions would not be large. Each of us was quite full at the end of evening - so the portion size was appropriate for the experience. More

Discover The Twin Cities

Yes—a frigid Minneapolis winter evokes stews and soups and hearty, gut-warming fare, but the food scene in this formerly industrial city has gained steam in recent years, with a burgeoning community of excellent chefs, craft coffee and beer, and Nordic style to accompany the culinary traditions of the region’s immigrant community. You’ll find lefse—a traditional Norwegian flatbread made with flour, potatoes, milk, and cream, akin to a latke of a sort—creatively topped and, while meat is central (this is the midwest, after all), river fish and ingredients foraged from surrounding wooded areas lend diversity to the new Minneapolis menus. A number of new but now iconic restaurants have set the tone for how the twin cities’ keep up with the trends, though the two are more fraternal than identical these days, St. Paul taking a slightly more classic, mom and pop shop vibe.
