Went for Brunch and enjoyed the sweet potato pancakes. Wasn't the most memorable meal I have had but was just a solid brunch. Also incredibly kid friendly with plenty of space to navigate a stroller. Excellent and worth trying if you are in the neighborhood
Wait staff continues to be friendly, helpful, and kind. Great menu full of "healthy-ish" & delicious dishes.
Brunch was not memorable and kind of pricey. I liked the dinner there better!
Love this great Wicker Park restaurant. Cocktails are fun including the carrot margarita. Love the board of appetizers. And we shared almost all the Vegetable options. Super yummy, especially the cauliflower.
Great creative flavors of seasonal food. 100% would go again
Pleasantly surprised with the flavors and textures of food, as I recently am trying to eat vegan. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends.
Just love this place
Delicious food with a vegetarian focus!! We had the broccoli gratin, pig ear pasta, Brussels sprouts, carrot dumplings and mushroom polenta terrine. The menu changes so make sure to look before you go but it was all delicious! The plates are a little small so you might want two!
Food was too salty
Definitely a cool spot. The service was excellent. The food was good; bigger portions than I anticipated, which was actually nice for a change. Good spirits list with good mezcal selections. Good spot to bring a date or just hang out and eat and drink.
Food was good. Was a little confused if this was a small plates or bit. Decided the portions we're too big to be small plates and to small for entree. But very good and excellent drinks.
This was my second visit to Clever Rabbit and my first as a new transplant to Chicago. I can't fault the service or the food we ordered - both were outstanding, our server was happy to share tips about the menu (which she knew back to front) and Chicago life, the carrot dumplings and tomato confit were incredible. Just wish there were some more hearty Vegan options on the menu, a delicious pasta or something more filling which tended only to be the non-vegetable offerings.
Great service and nice menu for sharing. Lots of veggie options!
Most of what we ordered was spectacular. I'm vegetarian, but even my devoted carnivore friend enjoyed the food. Some of the portions were tinier than I would have expected (even knowing that we were getting small plates), but the service, bread and drinks more than made up for it.
Sweet potatoes were amazing, don't miss those. I love the variety of veggies on the menu. There is a variety of options available without the menu being overwhelming.
We were seated promptly and served efficiently. The food was good and portion sizes for brunch were big.
Great meal with lots of veggies in a cool setting! They have fish and chicken dishes alongside a great selection of vegetarian items. Our group of 4 shared a handful of the veggie dishes and a salad and all left content. They have unique cocktails, but most seemed light or sweet rather than spirit forward. The value was pretty good, not overly expensive for the quality.
Brunch was fantastic. Always great!
Clever Rabbit is the best vegetarian focused menu in Chicago! As always, Clever Rabbit delivers a well above expectation experience even on a busy Valentines Day evening! The staff modified a reservation with less than 2 hours of notice to increase the size of the dining group and had the table ready with no wait upon arrival within a busy dining room. The food was outstanding, and the service was highly attentive without being overbearing. Food highlights include the broccoli pate, the smoked carrots, and the carrot dumplings. Servers provide beer and cocktail recommendations well suited for the food courses, even as the menu changes frequently. The inventive food at a shockingly good price point makes Clever Rabbit a "must visit" restaurant even for dedicated carnivores.
Maybe it was the 9:00 pm reservation time, or perhaps the bad weather made key people call off that evening, but our experience was not consistent with most reviews. We ordered 6 items: Fried Breakfast Radish, Broccoli Rillette, Harvest Salad, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli Gratin, and Eggplant Rotolo, plus a Chocolate Chip Cookie for dessert. While nothing was terrible, none of it was very memorable either. Many of the items lacked flavor (incidentally, we overheard diners at two adjacent tables also requesting salt & pepper) and/or were not hot when served. The highlight of the meal was the Breakfast Radish. The salad was soggy. The cheese on Broccoli Gratin was barely room temperature. The Eggplant Rotolo was loaded with turnips, not mentioned in the description, and wasn't to our taste. Even the Chocolate Chip Cookie, which the server warned us was hot and right out of the oven was cold in the middle. Again, we may have just visited at a bad time or on a bad night, but our experience was underwhelming.
My husband chose Clever Rabbit for my birthday because of its vegetarian focus. It’s rare to find a quality veg restaurant and Clever Rabbit qualifies. Service was excellent and the food was unusual and delicious. I would recommend the sweet potatoes for sure. Will definitely go back.
Being vegetarian/vegan/gluten-/dairy-free in Chicago's midwest steakhouse restaurant scene is tough. I guess we had high hopes Clever Rabbit would be the missing link for our neighborhood spot to enjoy by ourselves and/or with friends. I'm sad to say we were disappointed.
The ambiance is nice. I wished the fake fire was real, as it was a cold snowy night, however I can imagine the garage doors opening to a happening city street during our short-lived summer months.
I was intrigued with the carrot margarita so I ordered that. It was good.
Our table felt misled about the proportions of items on the menu. There are ample vegetarian starters and shared side plates, yet there are no/limited veggie main dishes (which we know is a tough category to fulfill, though we were hopeful the vegetables would be freed from side-dish purgatory).
The kale salad was tasty. The carrot dumplings left something to be desired (I think they needed more carrot filling). The mushroom polenta lacked a bit of texture and taste. The brussels sprouts were a bit over-seasoned (salty?). A friend got the oolong angolotti as his main course and it was surprisingly small. I typically like small dishes, but having known its size ahead of time he may have ordered something else for his entree. My husband got the broccoli gratin and I was disappointed as we were sharing. It looked like they melted kraft cheese over the top of the broccoli. I ordered the eggplant rotolo and would go back for it. It was the best dish we ordered by far. I was bummed I had to share it.
With all the dishes we ordered we still had room for dessert. The desserts were great. But when sugar is the main ingredient it's hard not to like the way it tastes...
I would go back and try it for brunch, though I will have to convince my husband to join me.
Excellently prepared small plates. Two of us shared five plates with food leftover. The breakfast radish appetizer and brussel sprouts were excellent. The staff was courteous, well-trained and knowledgeable. Given that I am gluten sensitive, I appreciated that the menu clearly classified each item as gluten free, nondairy, vegetarian, and/or vegan.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
amazing! we tried the restaurant week food options and i have to say all the vegan options beat out the other dishes. They were all so tasty and unique! We have been to alot of vegan/veg restaurants and this was our favorite! loved the matcha cookie for dessert at the end.
Wonderful restaurant, great service, and amazing food!
What I liked the most was how they checked for food allergies up front and helped guide us on the choices. My date has a ton of items to avoid, yet we were able to pick out a number of great choices. The food was superb and creative.
The food was very good. Unfortunately, we barely saw our waitress so ordering more food/drinks was a pain.
Amazing drinks and vegetarian dishes!
Excellent food overall. Everything on the menus looked great and every one at our table enjoyed their food. Great service and great food!
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo it was great
This place didn't get great reviews when it opened so, even though I walk by all the time, I had never gone in. I loved it! I think it's way better than a similar concept in the west loop. Portions are appropriately sized, the waitress was very accommodating of diets/allergies and the food was great. Good wine list too.
We very much enjoyed our first visit to Clever Rabbit. Most dishes are for designed for sharing. Each dish was very satisfying and a creative (but still normal) take on tastes and flavors. It was reasonably priced and a vibrant atmosphere on a Friday night in a very chilly Chicago winter.
I would recommend this place for a date or group. There were plenty of both around the restaurant and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The cocktails are also very good and the place is definitely vegetable forward with well less than half of the dishes containing meat.
Great food and cocktails. Girlfriends and I had brunch. Left full but not stuffed. Vegan, vegetarian options available which makes this place even better!
Absolutely loved Clever Rabbit! While it's very vegetable-focused, all the options were very filling and different (carrot dumplings?! yum!) It was a different take on veggies and the cocktail list was incredible - highly recommend the carrot margarita and the drink with matcha in it. I will be going back!
Came here for brunch on a snowy Saturday morning. Everything was excellent! There are a lot of vegetarian options, but also dishes for meat lovers.
The food was amazing, the drinks were delicious, the service was outstanding. This is one of my favorite spots.
Good concept but poor execution, missed the mark - food was cooked unevenly and 4/4 dishes from our table were WAY oversalted...the point of being inedible.
Drinks were decent but service was lacking. All in all - not worth the high prices.
another wonderful meal at this new(ish) neighborhood gem. quite cold sitting at the front of the restaurant (kept our coats on for part of the meal) but other than that very tasty - my parents were in town visiting and loved it!
Hungry Rabbit always delivers an amazing experience. The ingredients are high quality and the seasoning is perfect. Each dish is unique in taste and texture. The service is not rushed and perfectly timed. Ask the server to deliver the courses as recommended by the chef for an even better experience. Do not hesitate to reserve a 5:30pm table before a 7:30pm Bulls or Blackhawks game. You will have a great meal at a much better value than a bar in the West Loop, and your companions will be talking about the meal for weeks to follow.
would come back just for the atmosphere! they played a lot of Queen & Bowie that night, which was fun. burger was incredible- would also recommend the carrot margarita. server was sweet and attentive. we weren't fans of the coffee (dark matter) but waitress took it off our bill. overall wonderful experience.
