Love this place !
The food was good but not great. Shrimp with grits was tasty but not a huge portion. Service was very good.
The Bellini's were great! However, my friend got a salad and did not get half of her toppings on the salad that were supposed to be on it. I had the avocado toast salad which was sub par. Really only leaves and a spec of avocado on the toasted bread.
I didn't think the waffles and chicken were particularly good. Waffle wasn't crisp or hot and the fried chicken was a chicken patty. No "free refills" for iced tea? Really? It's not a fine dining establishment. The server was nice enough but that doesn't make up for the food and costs...
Our first time there and will absolutely be back. The food was top notch and the service was wonderful. Fantastic bar and drink options, and the ambiance was perfect.
Cheese plate was awesome! Wonderful setting, cozy, and great place to spend a Saturday evening.
not a well run establishment, issue with Groupon and being attentive
Shrimp and grits... must have! The Buttermtfried chicken sandwich is delicious as well. Overall, the atmosphere and dining was excellent.
Surprisingly good southern cuisine in downtown Philly. Great staff and friendly chef.
Delicious food, lovely outdoor seating and top notch, attentive, friendly service
They had to many employees walking back and forth to bathroom and talking to other employees. Even though it was restaurant week my meat entree was a small portion. Me and my guest were not happy with our service.
Went for restaurant week and Everything was great, especially the shrimp and grits.
Great meal. Fast and exceptional service.
Celebrating a Graduation and everything was perfect the staff was beyond amazing. Truly a great experience and I’m still dreaming about the delicious food.
The drinks and appetizers were good not great. My friend ordered crab/shrimp ravioli and it tasted so fishy she did not eat it after the first bite. My scallops wrapped in bacon was mediocre. The collard greens that was my side was delish. My favorite part of the whole meal. My other friend ordered shrimp and grits. It was very good just a tad spicy. The outsides porch was perfect since it was beautiful evening “Indian summer” weather.
A great meal. Shellfish & grits was excellent.
The kitchen does a wonderful job with seafood and fresh vegetables. Wonderful pre-theatre destination.
The atmosphere in warm months is so pleasant.
This restaurant was underwhelming. Ordered the bacon wrapped scallops with collared greens. There was bland crab sprinkled in the dish and a watery sauce (supposedly a lemon buerre blanc). The fat was not rendered out of half the bacon. The service was friendly and attentive, but it couldn’t make up for the mediocre food. Finally, I was inside, but kept having to swat away a fly (gross!) from my plate.
So good. I’ve been there twice and it was phenomenal each time.
The food was tasty and comfort food for sure. I thought the portion could have been larger. The waiter we had was not good not all. He seemed pushy and never checked up on us and forgot to refill drinks.
One of our favorite places to brunch in the city! Service is wonderful!
The food, service and atmosphere were great. I will definitely go back.
The menu is limited and the portions were small. The turkey and Brie sandwich was dry, the grilled romaine entree was more of a side salad size. It’s a nice atmosphere, probably would stick to a drink at the bar
I dined here for brunch after having an amazing dinner here in February. Sadly, brunch does not compare to the impeccable dinner. The portions were quite small compared to most brunch restaurants, and I was still hungry after having the shrimp & grits with a side pimiento biscuit! While the food itself was decent and the service was great, I was a little let down after such an outstanding dinner experience.
The food my dining partner and I had was very fresh and tasty. The atmosphere was bright and cheery. I appreciated that it was quiet, and we could enjoy our conversation.
Promptly greeted and seated. My burger was cooked to order; pink and not mashed down on the grill with a spatula which squeezes out the juices while my companions Cobb salad with the buttermilk chicken was tasty as well as moist. A great place to eat.
fried green tomatoes were a greasy glob, remoulade sauce was just nasty tasting, hushpuppies plainly did not taste good. turkey sandwich was ok - mustard was very spicy, it was not fresh turkey but deli turkey roll, seafood over cheesy poblano grits was good although grits were quite "lumpy", something bad tasting in the diced tomato combination sprinkled over the dish,
Beignets had bad after taste - I think frying oil was very old.
Only thing memorable about this meal was how bad it was
The Cajun po boy was amazing. Our server took great care of us. We’ve dined here before and will definitely be back.
Staff here is friendly and provides good customer service, food is excellent, innovative take on the southern style small plates/appetizers. The seafodd and grits entree is outstanding. Nice cocktail menu.
What a wonderful place to celebrate my mom's birthday! Delicious food, good service and just a beautiful place to have lunch. Cant wait to go back.
This was an experience unlike any other that I have had at Common Wealth. I go there for the seafood and grits. Since my last visit in January, the chef has changed and thus new chef decided to tamper with perfection and came up woefully short. So short in fact, I sent the dish back. Tanisha, who served our table was gracious, professional, and very accommodating. The same is true for the manager, who came to the table and spoke with me at length. I did order another dish, which he prepared for me himself. He, too, was gracious, professional, and very accommodating. The delicious chocolate mousse cake, was on the House, and it did leave a sweet taste in my mouth, but I was definitely disappointed by my favorite dish and I sincerely hope they will resume using the original recipe.
Common Wealth Old City is a great choice for a great meal. I love the gumbo and the Scallops.
When we arrived we were greeted and shown to our seats. We ordered the Peach Bellini which was horrible so opted for water. The server was slow and so forgetful and it was only three tables of people which he only had two. My friend ordered chicken and waffles and stated that was the worst chicken she ever tasted. My other friend ordered the shrimp with gritts which tasted good just not enough food and I ordered the Lox and Avocado dish which was pretty good. We would probably go back for dinner but not brunch....
The food and service was excellent. No complaints. The waitress was very nice as well as the floor manager. We had an issue with a Groupon purchase but the floor manager fixed the issue with no complaints. It was a very pleasant experience. I will be returning very soon.
The server was excellent. Initial greeting by hostess was very friendly and set the tone for a great experience. Also had a great conversation with the manager on duty about the oysters. I have to go back since they were not offered during brunch.
Weeks ago I made a reservation for 3 for brunch as a part of my moms birthday celebration. We got to the restaurant at 3 and the hostess sat us promptly. This is where the service ended. Since brunch ends at 3:30 every table around us was either finishing up or leaving. Our waitress took about 10 minutes to greet us. Our water was already depleted by then and she didn't even apologize for the delay or welcome us to the restaurant, just asked for our order. After taking the order she said she would be back with more water. About 10 minutes later, we got our food but had not yet received our mimosas or water. The waitress was quick to say the bartender had not made them yet. Keep in mind the bar was right behind us and maybe 5 people were there.
At this point, we did not see the waitress again until she wanted to give us the check. Our food was sub par in that three of my 5 pancakes were burnt and the other two just barely cooked, the plating was atrocious, and I was missing a side of meat. 15 minutes later, I had to interrupt the hostess who was cleaning to ask for our drinks, basic condiments, and the side of breakfast meat! She was a blessing in disguise and promptly brought all the things we needed but again, no apology (not that it was her job to so). It was obvious our mimosas had been sitting for a while.
Our waitress came back only to clean up the table and since I had just gotten my side of meat I was not quite ready to be finished. So the waitress left and never retuned. Another 15 minutes later I once again had to rely on the hero hostess who got us our check and then the waitress returned to gladly pick it up. No apologies. No conversation. No water refills for the entire meal.
Needless to say, I will never be returning and will most certainly tell others to spend their money else where. Shame on you Common Wealth.
Great food, great environment, and great service! Food is extremely fresh.
Went there for brunch and the staff was not ready. We ordered drinks and the bar was not set up to make them. It wasn't until 10 mins after we received our food that our waiter came over with our drinks only to spill them on the floor. Not his fault 100% but we told him not to worry about trying to make them again. The food was alright but we were soured by never getting our drinks. The table next to us didn't receive menus until 10 mins after sitting down. The staff needs to step their game up if they want repeat customers.
Friendly, attentive staff, great food and specialty drinks. Would definitely recommend! I had the Seared Scallops small plates and it had 4 large scallops over sweet corn hotcakes with a delicious branded apple bacon cream sauce which was out of this world.
