Hutch American Cafe - River North
The menu is essentially an updated version of the brunch menu at Hutch on Clark Street. Diners will find sandwiches, omelettes, flatbreads and salads. They also serve smoothies and have a selection of brunch cocktails.
The tidy space is simple and rustic. There’s a chalkboard menu and a painting featuring a version of the Chicago flag with the brunch essentials of a Bloody Mary, coffee, eggs and waffles in place of the stars.

Excellent service food was great.
Great Friday Brunch!! My wife and I were staying in the Loop/Theatre district, and wanted to find a brunch place on a Friday. Hutch American Cafe! It was an easy mile walk from our hotel, and well worth the late morning stroll. We were greated warmly when we arrived, and seated right away. We each had the spicy sunset cocktail, a great variation on a tequila sunrise, and a perfect start to our dining experience! We had the breakfast wrap and the pulled bacon benedict! Both were delicious!! The chorizo in the wrap is perfect spice and flavor! The pulled bacon is pulled pork with burnt ends and tons of flavor. The hollandaise sauce was great and poached eggs on top, perfect!! The potato casserole is worth the trip alone....it's included with most breakfast entree's....if not, add it!!! would highly recommend, and will definitely be back!!
Great food. Get the totchos, you won’t regret it. Came here for brunch and had a good tome
We arrived early, so we didn’t mind waiting. They were super-busy. Hostess was very nice and seemed to have an organized system. She was hustling to make sure tables were cleared & cleaned quickly. She was constantly communicating to all the groups waiting for tables providing updates and also brought us a complimentary mini drink because it looked like they were overbooked for awhile.
Our waitress was very nice too. Everyone seems to love their food except me. I actually hated mine (chilaquiles), and they asked me about it. I told them it was fine because I didn’t want to make a big deal about it. They were clearly busy...3 out of 4 plates were great & the apps we ordered we all really enjoyed.
Chilaquiles with avocado was excellent and appreciated the friendly and timely service!
Good brunch- Chris was an excellent server. Funky little place off the beaten path.
Amazing brunch spot. Staff is always super accommodating and food is consistent and delicious. It’s always crowded - I do wish the space wasn’t so cramped but a solid brunch.
Loved it! Food was great as were Tiffany and Anna.
Great breakfast and many different mimosa flavors. Hector took great care of us!
Poached eggs came out cold. Ontario St. omlette was the best order at the table. Service was exceptional though. Didn't have to flag anyone down and were very timely to prepare food.
What a find! Loved it. Perfect brunch if you want to be real and avoid trendy chain restaurants. Service and ambiance were charming and food was great.
Food wasn’t great and took forever. Started with a blood orange mimosa which was the best part of the meal, and the spinach blueberry smoothie which took forever to come out. For food we got the salmon Benedict and the biscuits and fried chicken. Even though we asked for no scallions on the Benedict and indicated a food allergy, it came out with scallions. We sent it back and 10 minutes later it came out with a fresh layer of hollandaise and some of the onions still remaining, now just quietly hidden under the sauce.
The biscuit and chicken didn’t have enough gravy and was just way too much biscuit compared to everything else on the plate.
The whole meal was just ok, but our server was friendly and helpful.
The drinks here are as exciting as you’d expect it, but the FOOD is what really knocked me out. The breakfast wrap was phenomenal, as was the biscuit with fried chicken and gravy. The bloody mary’s didn’t have any garnishing which can be disappointing, but the cheesy potatoes made up for it. All over a great experience in a fun environment.
Service and everything was great. The problem was that no one could really eat their food except the eggs Benedict. We had two avocado toasts but couldn’t even cut through them with a steak knife they were so toasted. The country fried steak was extremely over cooked and the steak sandwich was so chewy we didn’t eat any of it.
We’ve loved the lake view location by this one was a let down for all 5 people
The bottomless mimosa deal cannot be beat! It is really fun for groups and the burger is delicious.
Our waiter, Tyler, was wonderful. He was ready with recommendations and super fun to interact with! Brunch food was great. I was surprised at how large my salmon flatbread was. Carafe drinks were strong; definitely did not skimp and worth the money.
Hutch was amazing! Food was outstanding and the staff were very friendly. Had a reservation for 5 and got to sit by the window. Thank you Hutch, we will be back!
Loved this place! First time there. Fresh orange juice in the cocktails. My breakfast was perfectly cooked. My dad loved his chicken and waffles.’thanks for a great brunch!
Beware of dining on a Sunday morning/afternoon! We had a reservation and the front desk was 20 minutes late seating us, due to an extremely frazzled hostess who was also expected to clean off tables.
From the hordes of people fighting for tables to the screaming children and completely cold food, this was definitely not an experience that left anyone begging for more. In fact, we were begging to get out as soon as we could.
Amazing and the nutella poppers are a must try! Also, the service is second to none.
Overall, the food was bland & the place was busy. The bar was backed up because of the volume of people. They want you to do the bottomless mimosa because it eases the traffic at the bar. We sat a long time waiting for our food (just like everyone else) but it was nice for our waiter to provide free “shooters” while we waited. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for tasty food & drink. I would, however, recommend this place if you mostly care about a boozy brunch in a vibrant bar.
Yummy brunch! Delicious mimosas. Tyler our waiter was top-notch!
Great service! There was a small error with our order but the waiter was very quick to fix it. The menu was affordable and had plenty of options. Would highly recommend!
My go to for brunch and mimosas. The server is always very accommodating and friendly.
Had a reservation for 7. Walked in, alerted the hostess that it would be a party of 3 instead. She jokingly told me she was prepared for 7 but would serve our party of 3 instead. She was nice and personality is perfect for the role of hostess. We were seated right away. Our waiter took about 5 minutes to arrive to our table. He brought water then disappeared. We finally ordered. I placed my order it included an entree as well as a side. Person in party ordered turkey bacon. Waiter leaves. Meal arrives about 10 minutes later. She asks if the bacon is turkey, he says oh no sorry. Takes it away. I tell him my side of sausage has not come. He says he'll check on. Comes back minutes later and says we don't serve turkey bacon. She ask for turkey sausage instead. Her sausage comes out. Mine has not. Half way done with my meal, my sausage comes out it's turkey. I refuse it. Waiter apologized, says he'll get the pork. I tell him that's okay. Food was delicious. I ordered pulled bacon Benedict. My friends order Belgian waffles with strawberries. Food was great. Server gives me 10% of my bill for the mix up. Overall restaurant is worth the visit. Food is fun and creative and tasty. Price is a bit higher, but I think that's expected for a downtown restaurant.
Do NOT eat here. Took my mom and sister for brunch on Saturday. The restaurant was hot inside, the champagne was warm, and our food was GROSS! Pulled chicken and pulled bacon- FaIL! The eggs were poached hard instead on medium as requested. The gravy was tasteless and thin. The biscuit was dry. Our waitress was the only high point- sweet and sorry the food was so bad.
The service was painfully slow. Our food took two times how long it should have.
Food was great but air conditioning was broken and manager kept telling us it was on. Everyone in the place was sweating and fanning themselves. Music was way too loud. Price of food was expensive. Was supposed to be half off brunch items but waiter didn’t adjust pricing on bill
The breakfast tacos & cheesy potato casserole are phenomenal! The atmosphere was very laid back, the service was friendly but non-intrusive, and the cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend checking out Hutch for brunch!
Food was great but service was horrible. Took forever to get seated, took well over an hour to get food, and it was impossible to get simple things like refills.
We had to go to a different restaurant because they didn’t have a table for us - they appeared to be short staff as it took a very long time to even speak to someone.
We didn’t even get our reserved seat there was a line out the door of the same time reservations. They did not set aside any tables for any of the reservations.
Really good breakfast, cute place. Our waiter was excellent. The mimosas are mostly juice but our waiter was really enthusiastic and kept pouring them, well after they closed, so we were happy.
We got the pulled bacon (like pulled pork but better). Generous portion for $6! Also got steak and eggs, smoked salmon Benedict. Everything was prepared perfectly
Great food & drinks for a great price! Casual, comfortable atmosphere.
Went for Father’s Day! Very busy so service was a little slow but the food was awesome and drinks were delicious! It had great music but was a tad loud for our occasion. Dad had a great time and plan to return with friends soon!
Love brunch at Hutch!
Went there with friends for brunch, everybody enjoyed their meal , nice neighbor hood place .
Tucked away and quaint. Went with friends and everyone ordered something different. Everyone was pleased with their meal; Belgian waffle was a huge hit as well as the chicken and waffles. Kitchen didn't prepare my breakfast burrito as ordered but it wasn't a showstopper. The spicy sunset and blood orange mimosa were delicious! Dining room is small; thankfully we had reservations. It was raining and the restaurant was crowded and pretty noisy but again, not a showstopper. If the weather was nicer, eating outside would have been our choice. Our server, Tiffany, was super! I'd definitely eat here again
Great service, friendly staff & delicious food, definitely coming back!
