The service was terrible. Got there early, took a seat at bar and we were ignored for 15 minutes. Finally had bartender. One over only to find out the first three beers I. Hose from their daily menu were not available. This is the old Bom Bolla location. How did that great place not make it and this place does?!
The food was delicious, as were the cocktails. They have a lot of variety. I think the service was extremely exceptional - from the hostess, our waitress, and the food runners. All super kind and friendly. I would recommend.
Was sad to hear that the concept will be changing to a more "island" cuisine and less Hawaiian.
Happy that the Poke Bowls are staying.
It's a fun, tasty, and more importantly DIFFERENT restaurant than anything else in Chicago.
Been wanting to try Mahalo for a while now, and was disappointed. The food was mediocre and while the servers were very friendly, service was painfully slow - even though the place was far from packed.
First cup of coffee wasn’t even hot. Tuna poke was average. I needed to ask for soy sauce and I never add salt or additional seasoning when I eat out!! Portuguese Hash was pretty disappointing and under seasoned. Service was great. The menu looked good but maybe we came on an off day. Really want to give it another chance.
I went to Mahalo yesterday and the food was decent...loved the nachos and banana pudding. The salmon poke was meh...there was something missing but ok enough that I wanted to come back today to try the traditional poke today. My daughter and I went there today and after we were sat down we were told “let me tell you what’s not available on the menu” and it was essentially 2/3 of it...all the seafood options. Essentially everything we went for. Apparently they are completely changing the menu tomorrow - and none of the wait staff even know what the new menu will be. It will be a new “concept”. You would think they would want to hype it up so people would be excited to come for the “new” menu.
Back to the review. We thought let’s still stay and try the Kahlua pork rice, chicken wings and a burger. Fairly basic stuff. All of it was so bland. Literally I don’t think there was salt anywhere and I don’t like salty food. My rice was edible enough but not enjoyable. My daughter didn’t even touch her burger because the bun was covered with grease on top. The wings tasted boiled (I don’t think they were but had that no flavor) and the sauce they came in tasted bottled.
I’m giving two stars because the waiter was nice, understanding of our disappointment and professional.
Great food, great atmosphere, bar stools not comfortable.
They were out of half of the menu, and had only 2 beer options available.
My family's experience here was outstanding. The service was great and the food was even better! I would definitely recommend this for brunch.
Overall It was a good experience. My girlfriend and I had the Island burger which was super tasty but.....we both got really sick after (it was worth it) the ambiance was kinda cheap but the staff was great!
Food & drinks were top notch & service staff were all very friendly!
We loved it, great place to hangout on Friday with coworkers after work.
Amazing. Would recommend to anyone
Worst ramen of my life. And my server sucked.
Me ha encantado el lugar y estoy segura que repetiré
The service was amazing, cocktails right on time & the pork fried rice was some of the best‼️
Interesting concept, poor execution. 3 hostesses stood by the door all night as fewer servers got slammed. Service was spotty for this reason. Food was fun, but too little protein for the price. Overall, good food, poor service and poor value.
The interior is well decorated and we got to be seated in the back with the neon "Mahalo Vibes" sign. Great if you are into posting your outings to social media. Service was fine but not particularly attentive. Our small group of friends tried the coconut shrimp, fries, two types of ramen and a salmon poke bowl. Generous portion of fries but they tasted like McDonald's (not necessarily a bad thing). It seemed like this place made things "Hawaiian" by making their food VERY sweet - too sweet to finish. Would recommend trying once to anyone interested but am not compelled to return.
Awesome roof top seating as well as plenty of indoor seating. Wait staff is friendly, knowledgable and attentive!
This is the second time my wife and I have dined here. We typically order a series of plates and share. We stated with the nachos and ended with the fish tacos - everything tasted wonderful and was easy to share. The food is definitely on the healthly and lite side, which is eactly what we were going for, highly recommend!!!!
Absolutely amazing. You walk in and you’re transported to the tropics. Favorite place in the city.
Service was ok, and the decor was nice. Food really left a lot to be desired.
We went for a late dinner and sat in the back dining room, which was in considerable disarray following a large party (reportedly). Our server was good, and prompt enough. Neither of us liked our drinks (the Hawaiian sangria was way too tart, and the blood orange margarita tasted like some sort of solvent with red pepper on the rim instead of salt). We had the wings for an appetizer, the tuna Poke bowl and the big burger, all of which were fine. The seasoning on the Japanese-style fries looked *very* unappetizing--I won't elaborate. The place a buzzy, noisy, surfs-up sort of spot, but not very authentic, altogether. It was okay, but we won't go back.
Cute place for tropical drinks, especially the shared pineapple
First time and Ill be back.
Our server was training someone new, but they were both very attentive and so kind. They came in frequently to check up on our group and gave us constant refills for water. We did make them wait long to get our orders in, but they remained patient and incredibly kind.
The decor is very relaxing, despite the restaurant being very busy! My food was good, although be warned that "nectar" isn't juice - it's canned soda!. While I enjoyed myself, because it's so busy, you get the feeling they want to turn your table quickly. It's good if you want a quick dinner before you head somewhere else, but not good if you want to actually have a longer convo with your dinner companion(s). Also, definitely make a reservation ahead of time! This place is popular!
Was wonderful! Spacious, room to breathe, not overcrowded. I dont like to make a big deal out of my bday so I asked the hostess not to do any surprise dessert or anything like that... she didnt pass the message onto the server who saw a gift id been brought under the table and he brought out cake. I just asked my family not to sing at me and they ate the cake and it was fine. Everything else was absolutely perfect, had a great salmon poke bowl.
While the ambiance was decent, the food was beyond disappointing
Delicious place to go have brunch with friends!! Avocado salmon toast is excellent!
Great food, style, and ambiance. Service was really bad.
Great food and drinks! Potstickers, pork fried rice, and poke bowls were delish. Can’t wait to come when it’s warm and check out the rooftop.
Good service and consistently excellent food.
Mahalo was such a cute and artsy place for my friends and I! They’re menu was medium sized but had a lot of yummy looking options for vegetarians! Also the Pina Colada’s are amazing!!! The only thing that I would say wasn’t the best was a few of the staff, our waitress was lovely but some of the other staff weren’t too kind. If I said something to them they seemed annoyed. But overall Mahalo is great!
Great food and service!
I love this place. The hit the mark on original drinks, apps, food, and dessert. Presentation and service are awesome!! cant say enough great things!
I love the atmosphere and drinks at Mahalo but this is my 4th time trying it out for dinner and each time i feel the quality goes down a notch. I invited a friend for (what i was hoping) a cool atmosphere with good food but was disappointed. I would definitely go back but in the summer for drinks on the rooftop.
Huge downgrade in menu quality and ambiance since it opened. Most expensive pile of rice with mayo I've ever had. If you're looking for poke or ramen (what the menu seems to focus on now) there are plenty of better options in the neighborhood.
