What Insiders Are Saying
The Bristol is an American restaurant in Bucktown good for any date or small group of friends.
I came here for dinner with my boyfriend and his family. We got a wide assortment of food from the menu, sharing everything family style, and we all loved the food. It was a bit cold inside, but that was our only complaint. We were sat upstairs where it was a bit quieter, which was much appreciated!
The good was good but it’s the atmosphere that would draw me back. Good friendly service, nice neighborhood atmosphere. Good wine and drinks.
We had a fantastic meal! The wine list was well curated, with a wide range of options from very affordable to more indulgent. Service was very friendly and efficient.
I live around the corner and have dined at Bristol around 20 times over the last couple years. The food is good. They were one of the original Chicago restaurants to break the mold. However, I have had average to below average service time and time again. I understand that good restaurant service is rare these days, but I feel like I'm being treated as a 1 time tourist diner in my local neighborhood restaurant. It's a drag because the food is good. They really should be nicer to their customers and at least pretend like they are interested in serving you and wanting you to come back. It is weird. It is either arrogance or complete lack of interest. Either way, I'm about to throw in the towel on this place.
Good food. Noise level excruciating
Very nice place. Food was great.
Delicious cocktails, burger was awesome and moist, duck fat fries were SO good & crunchy. Sophisticated but quirky menu! Also incredibly attentive wait staff. Great pick for a summer evening and definitely a Bucktown gem.
Food was top notch with a price to match. The sweet corn risotto as a starter was the star of the meal. The Whitefish main was well done with its flavorful bed of pureed veggies. My date had the tortelloni in brown butter. This dish was equally well received. Heads up, It's difficult to hold a conversation here as the brick interior makes for a loud dinner.
As usual- our dinner was delicious. Special seasonal salad dish was very tasty, and snap pea salad was the best
Sunday brunch was great!
Service was excellent and friendly. The pastries are exceptional.
Usually love the Bristol but almost everyone in our party of 9 thought our brunch was a bit bland
Wine's were good, food was excellent, with a limited, but very well done menu. Very noisy.
I always enjoy dining at The Bristol. I love their farm-to-table mentality and Chef Todd Stein and his team do a wonderful job executing their seasonal creations, even with dietary restrictions. I am never disappointed when I dine there. The service, food, wine, and the atmosphere is always on point!
Food was great and service was very attentive. Would definitely go back. The whitefish was fantastic!
Everything was excellent, maybe too good. The pastry board was a great start, but so good it made it hard to eat the rest. Smoked salmon and ham benedict were great and the yogurt was also very good. Seems like you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
We were celebrating my brother’s anniversary and my mom’s birthday on a Friday night. Our reservation was for 8pm and it took 20 minutes for us to be sat, so I wouldn’t give the Bristol 5 stars based on that. Plus no one acknowledged and asked what we were celebrating, which might be the first time this has happened with a booking through Open Table. I did note in my reservation that it was a special occasion. The food was good, but some items on the menu were overpriced for the value including the bread, which was the size of a muffin and $8. Overall a great neighborhood spot, but I wouldn’t make a special trip
It was an incredible first evening dining experience. Everyone was hospitable including the people making the food, bartenders, managers and rest of the staff! The food was great and the basque cake was to die for! Thanks Bristol and staff for a wonderful experience!
Never disappoints. The food is spectacular, there really not a bad thing on the menu. My favorites - monkey bread, duck fat fries and the ravioli. Might have the best chicken breast in Chicago. Great drinks, locally sourced specials, knowledgeable staff. Great for any occasion.
Thanks for making our dating anniversary so special.
The service was outstanding. My water glass was never empty. Attentive but not intrusive. The dishes were tasty and well presented. A couple were a bit too salty, but everything was worth eating. The duck fat fries, basque cake, and signature cocktails are the highlights.
Had a short wait with a reservation but hostess and mgr were very kind and apologetic and brought us some coffee cake while we waited.
Excellent, creative menu and attentive service combined for a great dining experience. But we arrived early, so beware that it gets very very loud as this small space fills, and the many lovely but hard surfaces and “lively” music make dinner conversation challenging. This is my second visit. I’ll be back.
I love the setting here - the brick walls and tables are very nice. The food is impressive - we love the curry cauliflower and beets. The fish choices are quite impressive - would order every time.
The food was to die for. Highly recommend the crispy pig ears and the basque cake! The background soundtrack was awesome. We went pretty early and the noise level gradually picked up through the night but you could always hear the person across from you speaking.
Lovely meal on a Sunday night - out with a friend in from out of town. We had elotes and duck fat fries and prawns to start. Then chicken and ribs and pasta as our mains. As desserts we had the favorite (mine) Basque cake and seasonal cobbler and nutter butter cookies with a chocolate creameux.
It was an amazing experience! The food was phenomenal and our waitress was great. The kitchen was slow during our visit and she was very accommodating due to that fact.
Great neighborhood spot. Great service and the food is spot on. Never a miss!
Jesus and Crystal took exceptional care and attention to our table during our visit.
On 7/3 they had a rib special. Really good. They should leave it on the menu.
The AC was out on the hottest day of the year..... they were very nice about it and offered a complimentary champagne drink. However, they said it the AC would kick in shortly and it never came on :(
The fries were good. The cauliflower was cold, the meat was too well-done, and the raviolo was swimming in butter and so rich that I couldn’t eat it.
The server was very good though. Friendly and concerned.
And the place is cute and has a nice ambiance.
I’d give it another chance.
Food was outstanding. Drinks were sub par. Service was wonderful.
First visit with husband and tween daughters. Everyone liked their food- I liked the cocktails! Ate upstairs and there were 3 large groups that made the noise level way too high- we were grateful that they slowly filtered out and we could hear each other again. Together we had a burger, hanger steak, pasta and the chicken-all delicious! My favorite though were the beets- perfect! Would recommend and we will be back!
The food and service were amazing! Great place for a date.
Went here for brunch with my family and it was wonderful! Great location, perfect ambiance and excellent food. Can’t forget the top notch service!! Really a pleasant experience! We will be back!
This is mid level American cuisine. I’d go back in a pinch but dishes are pre prepared and reheated, I literally got our 3 apps before we got our cocktails, 3 min max.
I've been here at least half a dozen times over the past few years and I've never been disappointed. Always great and well worth the money.
Great food, fantastic service, and got seated right away with our table ready (group of 7). Not our first time there, won’t be our last!
