What Insiders Are Saying
It's summer year round at Summer House Santa Monica. Don your finest Lululemon and chambray in an upscale dining environment.
Quality of our food was very good. Service was excellent.
However, we felt that the appetizers we ordered were quite small for the price charged.
Especially the calamari.
Went for brunch. Had high expectations based on reviews and it was a let down. Ordered eggs benedict on hash browns and bacon way overdone & too hard (and I went when opened). Also ordered English muffin since made on-site and that was also a letdown with imitation flavored jelly.
Would go back again for dessert and coffee. Would skip breakfast! Cool atmosphere.
We've been here on more than one occasion and always enjoy ourselves. I don't remember the name of our waitress but she was fantastic. Personable, fun, fast and efficient. The service was great, as was the food. We got the Mexican hash browns (so good!), avocado toast (yum!) and the lox (with more than enough salmon to go around!).
Met with friends for a lovely dinner with our college kids who attend DePaul. The ambiance and soothing decor was refreshing and light, just as you would imagine and depicts Santa Barbara perfectly! The food was wonderful but the staff was outstanding! Kyle and Anthony did not disappoint, we will be returning soon!
Great reatairant with delicious food and aervice love the restauranr and its beautiful too
This hip spot has great food, cute decor, excellent service.
Everyone was very professional and friendly. Really nice lunch atmosphere and the food was very good. I will definitely book again.
Great service thanks to kate. She was amazing!!!! The food was delicious too!
Loved it. Great Bloody Mary. Great eggs benedict.
We had a great dinner here with my mom in town and our 3 month old baby. The place was so boisterous that no one could hear her occasional fussing but the ambiance was so stimulating she was pretty content. Our server was excellent and very sensitive that we were on a time crunch with the baby. Everything we ordered was delicious as well. We had a tuna appetizer, the mushroom with rosemary and goat cheese, grilled salmon with sautéed spinach and Mediterranean sea bass. Everything was great!
Loved everything! Our server, Matt, was amazing!
thank you for helping us change tables away from the windows! definately helped make out experience so much better!
Great food, service and atmosphere!
Our Server 6004 Katherine was delightful, professional, compassionate. Nothing is perfect, but Katherine fulfilled her part in trying, as my wife put it while walking home - “tonight was a very good night”.
Great place! Good was very good and waiter was attentive and helpful
Fantastic setting, service and food. Our second time here we started with the chips and guacamole again with a delicious burger and Brussels sprout salad with grilled chicken. Great Rosé cart and local beers, grab a coffee and dessert on the way out the door.
First time and won’t be the last. This place has such a wonderful feel and atmosphere. Summerhouse is a must!
Made a reservation for 4 people and more friends wanted to join us! They happily accommodated our party of 9 and we had a great dinner. Our server Phillip was attentive and the cauliflower appetizer was delicious!
After loving Summer House for years we were surprised by the food on this visit.
We started with tuna poke, and crab roll and both were delicious. Our main courses, however, were very disappointing.
The classic Cobb Salad, generously portioned, and usually a refreshing and tasty treat was unappealing. The flavors were wrong, the chicken tasted much more like canned tuna, the salad itself was over-chopped so that it was more of a chief salad or coleslaw texture than a Cobb. The Trout also really disappointed. While the texture was great - crispy shin seasoned well, it simply tasted wrong. Both of us left hungry. I don't think we'll return anytime soon.
Love the Vitamin D Room. Perfect in the winter for lunch. Good is great. The barreta with olive salad and toasted bread is my favorite but they have great salads, sandwiches and amazing cookies. Absolutely worth a visit. They have valet but street parking is readily available.
After several recommendations to go to Summer House, a friend and I were excited to finally try it. Unfortunately, both of us were quite disappointed. The service felt awkward at times, the food was nothing exciting, and the prices were ridiculous for the quality of the food. $15 for a hummus appetizer? I'm far from cheap, but that's nutty. And the ahi tuna and watermelon tostadas (which were actually just quarter sized chips) were so lacking in texture, I couldn't tell what bits were what. Not quite sure what all the hype is for, perhaps we were just there on a really off night.
The food here is good and the quality of the ingredients is top-notch, but it's not worth the high prices. We go here sometimes because it's convenient to where we live and we like the "summery" atmosphere.
Every time we go to summer house in Chicago we come home very satisfied both with the food the service the ambience and the quiet surroundings of the restaurant. Every time I make a reservation through open table we know we're gonna have a great meal and great service.
Slightly above average food. Kitchen seemed to struggle syncing everyone's order t be ready o be ready together. Hence one or two dishes arrive tired, and another piking hot. I get it, brunch eggs, it's tough. Our waiter was super accommodating, he made a very average experience special.
Love this place. They are the best when it comes to ordering GF. Love that they have a separate menu and that it comes with a flag to let you know they didn't mix up plates! Also they have GF cookies for dessert that can change your life. Cocktails and mocktails are both delicious as well!
Really great food, I’ll definitely be coming back!
Summer House never disappoints! As it starts to cool off and become gloomy in Chicago it's always nice to eat at Summer House b/c their expert lighting makes it feel like it's still SUMMER time year round! The menu is fabulous I can never pick just one thing. I had the hash brown benedict and pancakes...both were delicious. I also have to say that our server, Connor, was very accommodating and gave great recommendations! I'll definitely request her next time I go to Summer House.
The ambiance was perfect for a girls brunch. Take advantage of the Rose cart!
Everything except parking. Had to valet which was understandably slow.
Only 50% of the time I’ve eaten here has the service and food been good. Very disappointed with Lettuce Entertain You at this restaurant. Don’t think I’ll return.
I've been to the Summer House many times. My recent visit was horrific. My daughters fish (fish tacos) was cold. Obviously, it had been cooked for a while. French fries were cold. They gave me a lunch menu so I ordered a chicken sandwich would was suppose to breaded and it was not. The chicken was tasteless. My bill was $200 and it was not worth it. Very disappointed.
We were sat at our reservation time and promptly served water. Ordered wine and appetizers, which were good, but a bit overpriced from my view. Had to ask another employee to get our waitress to order dinner. Food came out in an acceptable period of time, and most of the food was well-liked. Ordered salmon medium, but came well undercooked. Sent it back and again undercooked. Waitress was very attentive and handled this excellently. Manager came to table and was very cordial, agreeing it was undercooked. She adjusted the bill, plus an additional amount and gave some free desserts. Overall I applaud them for the way they handled the error; however, I felt the portion was quite small for the price. The quality is good and flavors are also good.
Third time eating here. Ambiance is great but food is just ok
The salmon and tater tots were mouth watering delicious! The guacamole and ahi tuna watermelon apps were amazing as well. Then to top it off, our waiter recommended the sea salt chocolate chip cookie from the front bakery and we took 2 home for a deliciously awesome late night snack!
The best part of our dining experience was the table we got. It was a great big round table away from all the noise of the restaurant. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time with no explanation why. The ambiance is beautiful but the food is overpriced and nothing spectacular.
This restaurant doesn't actually hold tables for reservations. Instead, when you arrive, they "check in" and then you wait for the next available table. For us, that was 15 minutes and they gave us a table that was just inside the front door where staff and patrons consistently ran into the chairs. We declined this table (so did the 8 groups after us) and then waited for another table. We ended up waiting 30 minutes for a table on a reservation made a month ago. RIDICULOUS. This is my biggest pet peeve for restaurants that use open table or accept reservations. The food was good, but the experience ruined it for us.
Love the ambience here - really like not other place I've been. Food is quite tasty, but with a limited menu and a bit overprice in my opinion.
Summer House is one of our go to restaurants every time we are in town but unfortulately the food was very disappointing. The eggs were cold, the hash browns very much overdone and the sausage stiff and cold. We sent 2 of the meals back with the results worse. All of the food tasted very salty which makes me wonder if the chef and/or his staff has changed. It will be awhile before we return to Summer House and quite frankly with all the exceptional restaurants Chicago has to offer I’m not sure we will.
Great lunch with excellent atmosphere
